Demián Bichir and Shannon Cochran will star in the Geffen's Los Angeles premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan's By the Waters of Babylon, October 28-December 7, with an opening on November 5. Richard Seyd will direct.

The play follows the friendship which flowers between Arturo (Bichir), a gardener in exile from his native Cuba, and Catherine (Cochran), the widow of a Texas college professor who has been ostracized by her community. Arturo arrives to tend Catherine's neglected garden.

The creative team will include Michael Ganio (set), York Kennedy (lighting), Jon Gottlieb (sound), Frances Kenny (costumes), and Jason H. Thompson (projections).

Bichir currently stars as Esteban, Mary Louise-Parker's love interest on Showtime's Weeds. He also recently portrayed Fidel Castro in Steven Soderbergh's Che Guevara biopics The Argentine and Guerilla. He has received numerous acting awards in his native Mexico; this will be his U.S. stage debut. Cochran received a Theatre World Award, an Obie Award and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for her role in Tracy Letts' Bug.

Schenkkan won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for The Kentucky Cycle, and his other plays include Lewis and Clark Reach The Euphrates, The Marriage of Miss Hollywood and King Neptune, The Devil And Daniel Webster, Handler, and Heaven on Earth.
