Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins and Cold Case star Tracie Thoms will star in the Fountain Theatre's production of Zina Camblin's And Her Hair Went with Her, to run April 25-June 15, with an official opening slated for May 9.
This comedic two-hander, about a collection of eccentric characters in a beauty shop, will be directed by Diane Rodriguez and feature sets and costumes by Sandra Burns, lighting by Tony Mulanix, and sound by Adam Phalen.
Fountain's season will continue with the West Coast premiere of Bernard Weinraub's The Accomplices. Set during the World War II era, the play tells the true story of Hillel Kook, who spearheaded a campaign of public rallies, hard-hitting newspaper advertisements, and lobbying in Congress that forced America to confront the Holocaust.
In the fall, Ovation Award winner Ben Bradley will direct the Los Angeles revival of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean. In it, Aunt Esther, the drama's 287-year-old fiery matriarch, welcomes into her Hill District home Solly Two Kings, who was born into slavery and scouted for the Union Army, and Citizen Barlow, a young man from Alabama in search of redemption.
That production will be followed by the world premiere of Don Juan in L.A., created by Fountain co-artistic director Deborah Lawlor and starring dancer/choreographer Timo Nunez. This contemporary version of the Don Juan story is set to the passionate rhythms of Flamenco in a Los Angeles nightclub, where Don Juan is the town's hottest DJ.
