Antonio Banderas to Play Pablo Picasso in 33 Dias Movie

Antonio Banderas will play Pablo Picasso in the movie 33 Dias (33Days), according to a report in Variety. Carlos Saura will direct the film, which he has co-written with Elias Querejeta and Louis-Charles Sirjacq.

The movie will center on the artist as he paints his masterpiece “Guernica.” The title refers to the period he spent working on the canvas, which depicts his reaction to the destruction of Basque town of Guernica in 1937 by the Nazi Luftwaffe during the Spanish Civil War.

Banderas starred on Broadway in Nine, receiving a Tony Award nomination and a Drama Desk Award for his performance. Among his many film credits are Evita, Shrek 2, The Mask of Zorro, And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself, and The House of the Spirits.
