Andy Blankenbuehler will direct and choreograph the national tour of Bring It On: The Musical, which will launch with a six-week engagement at the Ahmanson Theatre, running November 1 – December 11. The production will be the first in the theater’s 2011-2012 season. The Ahmanson’s complete schedule, as well as a tour itinerary, will be announced at a later date.

With a book by Jeff Whitty, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and music by Tom Kitt, the show unfolds in the high-stakes world of competitive cheerleading where Campbell, the heir apparent to the head cheerleader at Truman High School, finds her world is thrown upside down when she receives a surprise letter. Casting will be announced shortly.

Blankenbuehler recently staged a developmental production of the musical at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. On Broadway, he has choreographed 9 to 5, In the Heights, and The Apple Tree, and he will be providing musical staging for the forthcoming The People in the Picture. As a performer, his Broadway appearances include Man of La Mancha, Fosse, Steel Pier, and i>Guys and Dolls, among others.
