David Auburn will write the screenplay for the movie version of Deborah Harkness’ book A Discovery of Witches, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The story centers on a direct descendant of the first woman who was executed during the Salem Witch Trials, who, after discovering a manuscript that may contain the secret of immortality, finds herself thrust into a war between witches and vampires.
Auburn won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Proof. As previously reported, his newest play, The Columnist, will debut on Broadway this spring, starring John Lithgow.
Among his film credits are The Lake House and The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein.
