Emmy Award Winner Harry Morgan Has Died

Stage and screen star Harry Morgan, who appeared in more than 100 movies and television shows after beginning his career on stage, has died at age 96 in California, according to The New York Times.


Morgan appeared under his real name, Harry Bratsburg, in the 1937 Broadway production of Golden Boy, and began working steadily in Hollywood in the 1940s, where he was originally credited for many years as Henry Morgan. He appeared in the 1945 musical State Fair, played Frank Lubey in the 1948 film version of All My Sons, as well as such films as High Noon, Teahouse of the August Moon, and How the West Was Won.

He went on to work regularly in television, including December Bride, Pete and Gladys, and Dragnet. In 1975, he joined the hit series “M*A*S*H as Colonel Pottr, replacing McLean Stevenson, and stayed with the series through the final episode in 1983. He won the Emmy Award for his work in 1980. He then reprised the role of Sherman Potter in the spin-off AfterMASH”.


He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bushman, whom he married in 1986; three sons from his first marriage, Christopher, Charles and Paul; and eight grandchildren.
