Great Performance will once again air Anna Deavere Smith’s Twilight: Los Angeles as part of the PBS Arts Summer Festival on Friday, June 29. The presentation will serve in part as a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots and as a memorial for the recently deceased Rodney King.

Twilight: Los Angeles, a film directed by Marc Levin, examines the fallout from the 1992 riots, as well as the aftermath of the Rodney King trial verdict. The film (originally seen on PBS in 2001) weaves Smith’s stage performance, in which she plays 40 real-life characters, with documentary interviews and footage of then-contemporary Los Angeles.

PBS will do an encore broadcast of the film on August 24.
