Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda was feted by leaders from entertainment, business and culture at Unite for In the Heights, held in the grand lobby of Hollywood’s historic Pantages Theatre, on Tuesday, April 27, in anticipation of the L.A. premiere of Miranda’s musical In the Heights, which will arrive in the city in June.

Celebrity guest and keynote speakers included director and choreographer Kenny Ortega, scheduled to direct the film version of the musical, who gave the opening remarks; Desperate Housewives star and philanthropist Eva Longoria Parker, who delivered the keynote address; and stage and screen actor Tony Plana, who led a special Q&A discussion with Miranda. The actor/composer also received a special Welcome Resolution from the City of Los Angeles from Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa.

The 2008 Tony Award winner for best musical, In the Heights is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Featuring music and lyrics by Miranda, and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, the musical focuses on the tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan and the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition.
