Frank Langella, Christopher Plummer Set for HBO’s Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight Movie

Tony Award winners Frank Langella and Christopher Plummer will star in the HBO movie Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Stephen Frears will direct the project.

The film, with a script by Shawn Slovo, will center on the legal battle between Ali and the government when the prize fighter became a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War.

Langella received Tony Awards for his work in Seascape, Fortune’s Fool, and Frost/Nixon, and received an Oscar nomination for his work in the film version of the latter play. He most recently appeared on Broadway in Man and Boy. Among his other credits are Dracula on stage and screen and A Man for All Seasons.

Plummer’s stage credits include Tony Award winning performances in Cyrano and Barrymore and he won the Evening Standard Award for the London production of Becket. Among his recent Broadway appearances are Inherit the Wind and King Lear. In addition, he is currently an Academy Award nominee for Beginners and he received an Oscar nomination for The Last Station. Plummer’s many other film credits include The Sound of Music, The Man Who Would Be King, and A Beautiful Mind.
