Green Day frontman and Broadway veteran Billie Joe Armstrong will guest star in the Season 4 premiere of Showtime’s Nurse Jackie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He will be playing what is described as “a stranger whom Jackie meets that causes a major change in her life.”

Armstrong played the role of St. Jimmy in the Broadway musical American Idiot, which is based upon the Green Day album of the same name and features a book co-authored by Armstrong and the musical’s director, Michael Mayer. As previously reported, he will reprise his performance in the film adaptation of the musical, which is planned to premiere in 2013.

Nurse Jackie stars Edie Falco in the title role. Upcoming guest stars include Bobby Cannavale, who has a recurring part as the new hospital administrator, as well as Joel Grey, Rosie Perez, and Aida Turturro.
