Terence Davies’ screen adaptation of The Deep Blue Sea will close this year’s BFI London Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Based upon Terence Rattigan’s play of the same name, the movie focuses on a woman who has left the security of her marriage after falling obsessively in love with a young ex-RAF pilot. It stars theater veterans Simon Russell Beale, Tom Hiddleston, and Rachel Weisz.
Beale is currently starring Off-Broadway in Bluebird, and his numerous stage credits include Uncle Vanya, The Winter’s Tale The Cherry Orchard, and Deathtrap.
Hiddleston’s stage credits include London productions of Ivanov and Cymbeline. Weisz won an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Blanche
DuBois in the West End production of A Streetcar Named Desire and appeared Off-Broadway in The Shape of Things. She won the Oscar for The Constant Gardner, and as previously reported will also co-star in the London Film Festival’s opening film, 360.
