Stephen Sondheim to Receive 2011 Olivier Special Award

Stephen Sondheim will be honored with the 2011 Olivier Special Award at the Olivier Awards ceremony to be held on March 13 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. As previously reported, Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton will host the event.

Sondheim is receiving the prize in recognition of his contribution to London theatre. Previous honorees have included Sir Alec Guinness, Dame Judi Dench, Sam Mendes and Sir Peter Hall.

Among Sondheim’s many other honors are an Academy Award, numerous Tony Awards (including a special award for Lifetime Achievement), multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize.
