Orchestra for West End’s Les Miserables to Be Expanded

Cameron Mackintosh has announced plans to expand the orchestra for the West End production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s Les Miserables, playing at the Queen’s Theatre, according to a report on the website for the U.K. magazine The Stage. In addition, the production will be getting a new sound design in the near future.

The orchestra for the production is being increased from 11 to 14 musicians so that the production can begin to use the new arrangements of the musical’s score that were used on last year’s 25th anniversary UK tour. The London version of Les Miserables is currently the only production of the musical that does not use the new orchestrations.
