Annie Baker, Melissa James Gibson, Lucy Prebble, et al. Among Susan Smith Blackburn Prize Finalists

The finalists for the 32nd annual Susan Smith Blackburn Prize have been announced. The award is given annually to a woman who has written an outstanding new work for the English-speaking theater. The 2010 Blackburn Prize, which carries a $20,000 cash award, will be announced in early March in a ceremony to be held in New York.

The plays and playwrights that have been recognized from a field of 90 are The Aliens by Annie Baker, The Language Archive by Julia Cho, This by Melissa James Gibson, it felt empty when the heart went at first but it is alright now by Lucy Kirkwood, The Shipment by Young Jean Lee, The Nature of Love by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, East of Berlin by Hannah Moscovitch, The Swallowing Dark by Lizzie Nunnery, Enron by Lucy Prebble, and Strandlineby Abbie Spallen.
