Following a sold-out engagement at Wyndham's Theatre (ending December 15), the revival of William Nicholson's award-winning play Shadowlands, starring Charles Dance and Janie Dee, will transfer to the Novello Theatre for a nine-week run beginning December 21.

Shadowlands tells the true story of the love affair between British author C.S. Lewis (The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) and American divorcée Joy Davidman. The original 1990 British production won the Evening Standard Award for Play of the Year and was nominated for three Olivier Awards. The 1990 Broadway production was nominated for the Tony Award winner for Best Play and earned the Best Actor trophy for star Nigel Hawthorne. The 1993 film version starred Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.

The production, which opened at Wyndham's Theatre on October 8, is directed by Michael Barker-Caven, with design by Matthew Wright and lighting by Peter Mumford.

Dance has worked extensively with the Royal Shakespeare Company over his 30-year acting career and starred opposite Jessica Lange in the West End production of Long Day's Journey Into Night. His numerous film and television credits include Gosford Park, White Mischief, The Jewel in the Crown, and Bleak House.

Dee is a two-time Olivier Award winner whose stage work includes Comic Potential (which she also starred in at Manhattan Theatre Club), Carousel, My One and Only, Mack & Mabel, Betrayal, and Donkey Years.
