19th Annual GLAAD Media Award Nominations Are Announced

Avenue Q, Terrence McNally's Some Men, and the musical Yank! are among the nominees for the 19th annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Award ceremonies will be held in New York on March 17 at the Marriott Marquis; in South Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on April 12; in Los Angeles on April 26 at the Kodak Theatre; and in San Francisco on May 10 at the San Francisco Marriott.

GLAAD also announced that it will recognize Brian Graden at the New York ceremony; Janet Jackson, Rufus Wainwright, and Herb Ritts in Los Angeles; Ilene Chaiken and David Mixner in San Francisco; and Wilson Cruz in South Florida. Special Recognition awards will also be presented to the cable network BET J in New York, the magazine The Intelligence Report in South Florida, and the groundbreaking theater troupe, Theater Rhinoceros, in San Francisco.

GLAAD has announced a total of 117 nominees in 25 English-language categories, and 55 Spanish-language nominees in 15 categories. Among non-theater nominees are Julie Taymor's film Across the Universe, the television show Brothers & Sisters, created by playwright Jon Robin Baitz, and the daytime dramas All My Children and As the World Turns.
