Sandy Duncan and Karen Ziemba to Star in The Real Tabasco Reading

Sandy Duncan and Karen Ziemba will star in a reading of Deborah Grace Winer’s new comedy, The Real Tabasco, at the Westport Country Playhouse, on Monday, April 14, 7 p.m. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. Kaitlin Hopkins will direct.

In the play, a prize-winning show dog escapes the tarmac at LaGuardia Airport, causing complications for a blue-collar Astoria couple with marriage problems, an immigrant baggage handler, and an under-employed actress leading the rescue effort. The reading is part of the Playhouse’s “Funny Mondays” series.

Duncan is a three-time Tony Award nominee for Canterbury Tales, The Boy Friend, and Peter Pan. She has also starred on Broadway in Love Is a Time of Day, My One and Only, and Chicago. Her many film and television credits include Star Spangled Girl, The Hogan Family, The Swan Princess, and Roots, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination.

Ziemba currently appears on Broadway in Curtains, for which she received an Outer Critics Circle Award and Tony and Drama Desk nominations. She won a Tony for Contact, and received additional Tony nominations for Steel Pier and Never Gonna Dance. Other Broadway credits include Chicago, Crazy For You, 42nd Street, and A Chorus Line.

Winer’s other plays include Big Important Issues and The Last Girl Singer. As an actress, Hopkins’ credits include the New York productions of Batboy and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.
