Works by Phillip Dawkins, Patricia Kane, Carson Kreitzer, et al. Part of About Face Theatre’s 2010-2011 Season

About Face Theatre has announced the lineup of works that will be part of its 2010-2011 season, which will open with the 2nd annual XYZ Festival of New Work, a look at LGBTQ artists and their art, at all stages of development.

At the center of the festival will be a full production of Patricia Kane’s Float (November 11 – December 12), to be directed by Leslie Danzig. The play, developed in the inaugural XYZ Festival, focuses on six women in a small Midwestern town as they grapple with religion, identity, sexuality, each other, and the building of the holiday parade float. The company will feature Wendy Robie, Adrianne Cury, Peggy Roeder, Rengin Altay, and Amy Matheny.

The XYZ Festival will also include a workshop productions of Carson Kreitzer’s Tiny Rooms, Tanya Saracho’s Mala Hierba and a new dance/theater piece from Patrick Andrews, as well as a performance lounge series featuring Dan Stermer’s performance art/dance trio Double DJ and curated by Jane Beachy. In addition, there will be readings of Jordan Seavey’s The Truth Will Out, Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas’ Bird in Hand, David Myer’s The Arvesto Parasite, and Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss’ A Twist of Water.

In April and May, About Face Theatre will produce Sally Oswald’s Pony, to be directed by Bonnie Metzgar. The piece is part of the city-wide The Woyzeck Project, which will feature works inspired by Georg Büchner’s classic anti-war play. Oswald’s work is set near the location of the famous murder scene in Woyzeck and is a tale of shifting gender roles and the dangers of obsessive love.

The theater’s season will conclude in June/July with Phillip Dawkins’ The Homosexuals, which will feature Patrick Andrews and focuses on the lives and friendships of six gay men, offering a 21st century perspective on the classic, The Boys in the Band.

Along with news of its season, the theater has announced a new slate of active Artistic Associates, which includes actor/choreographer Patrick Andrews, performer Alexandra Billings, designer Geoffrey M. Curley, performer Scott Duff, performer Mitchell Fain, playwright Sarah Gubbins, performer Zavier Hairston, designer Andre Pluess, performer Ben Sprunger, director Dan Stermer, dramaturg Rebecca Rugg, playwright/performer Tanya Saracho, actor Kelli Simpkins, and actor/writer Paul Oakley Stovall.
