Casting has been set for the Writers' Theatre production of Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, September 29-December 6, to be directed by Michael Halberstam with an official opening of October 8.

In Stoppard's comedy, Hamlet, Shakespeare's greatest drama, is retold from the perspective of his schoolmates, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as they struggle to avoid the inevitability of the Bard's tragic conclusion. The cast will feature Laura Coover (Ophelia), Sean Fortunato (Rosencrantz), Allen Gilmore (The Player), Gregory Isaac (Tragedian 1), Timothy Edward Kane (Guildenstern), Joey Steakley (Alfred), and Karen Janes Woditsch (Gertrude).

Writers' Theatre will also offer a series of "Page to Stage" events including a discussion with Halberstam, Fortunato and Kane (September 15); a screening of the film version of the play (Deerfield Public Library, September 22); readings from Hamlet, directed by Jimmy McDermott (Lake Bluff/Lake Forest Public Library, September 22); a screening of Sir Laurence Olivier's Hamlet (Deerfield Public Library, September 29); and discussions with scholars Dorothy Andries (Northbrook Public Library, October 1), David Bevington (Winnetka-Northfield Public Library, October 4), and Robert Coscarelli (Glenview Public Library, October 7).
