Phylicia Rashad will direct Paul Oakley Stovall’s Immediate Family, to run June 2 – July 8 in the Goodman Theatre‘s Owen Bruner Theatre.

The play centers on what happens when a family gathers together for the first time in more than five years in the clan’s Hyde Park home. The company will feature Shane’sia Davis (Evy), J. Nicole Brooks (Nina), Patrick Sarb (Kristian), Phillip James Brannon (Jesse), Kamal Angelo Bolden (Tony), and Cynda Williams (Ronnie).

Rashad won a Tony Award for her performance in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, a play she later directed for The Ebony Repertory Theatre in Los Angles. She also received a Tony nomination for her performance in August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, and went on to direct a new production of the play for Seattle Repertory Theatre. Among her other Broadway credits are August: Osage County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cymbeline, Into the Woods, and Jelly’s Last Jam. She is perhaps best known for playing Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show.
