Tracy Letts Replaces John Mahoney in Steppenwolf’s Penelope

Tracy Letts has joined the cast of Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s production of Enda Walsh’s Penelope. Amy Morton directs the production, which will run December 1, 2011 – February 5, 2012. He replaces John Mahoney, who as previously reported, left the production due to an unexpected death in his family.

Penelope is a reimagining of the Greek story about Odysseus’ wife waiting for her husband’s return. The production also features ensemble members Ian Barford and Yasen Peyankov with Scott Jaeck and Logan Vaughn.

Letts is perhaps best known as a playwright, winning the Pulitzer, Tony, and numerous other awards for August: Osage County, with other works including Superior Donuts, Bug, Killer Joe, and Man From Nebraska. He is a Steppenwolf ensemble member, and has appeared as an actor in its productions of Middletown, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, American Buffalo, Betrayal, The Pillowman, Last of the Boys, The Pain and the Itch, The Dresser, Homebody/Kabul, The Dazzle, Glengarry Glen Ross, Three Days of Rain, and more.
