Jeff Equity Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 43rd annual Jeff Equity Awards have been announced. The prizes were presented in a ceremony at Drury Lane Oakbrook, held on Monday, November 7.

One of the evening’s biggest winners was the Goodman Theatre’s production of Candide, which received five awards, including the prize in the Production-Musical-Large category. Also recognized were performers Geoff Packard, Larry Yando, and Hollis Resnick, as well as Mary Zimmerman who received the award for New Adaptation.

The award in the Production-Musical-Midsize category went to American Theatre Cmopany’s The Original Grease, and among the other artists recognized in musical categories is Charles Newell, honored for his direction of Porgy and Bess at Court Theatre. This show’s musical director Doug Peck also received an award, and Tammy Mader received the award for Choreography for her work on 42nd Street at the Marriott Theatre.

In drama categories, both David Henry Hwang and Bruce Graham were honored with awards in the New Work – Play category, for Chinglish and The Outgoing Tide, respectively. The biggest non-musical winner was the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s production of The Madness of George III, which received five awards, including ones for actor Harry Groener and director Penny Metropulos.


Among the other Jeff Equity Award winners are Annabel Armour, Tim Baltz, David Korins, Jessie Mueller, Mike Nussbaum, Barbara Robertson, and Diana Simonzadeh. Heidi Weiss received a special award in recognition of her contributions to Chicagoland theatre.
