Hamilton Cast to Perform on 2016 Grammy Awards Telecast

Lin-Manuel Miranda and his principal cast members are nominated in the Best Musical Theater Album category.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Broadway company of Hamilton will perform during the 58th annual Grammy Awards telecast, broadcast on CBS Monday, February 15, beginning at 8pm. The company will perform live via satellite from the show's home at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

The Hamilton cast recording is currently nominated in the category of Best Musical Theater Album. Cast members Miranda, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom Jr., Okieriete Onaodowan, Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo are on the nominations list as the album's principal soloists, alongside producers Miranda, Alex Lacamoire, Bill Sherman, Ahmir Thompson, and Tarik Trotter, and Miranda as composer and lyricist.

Hamilton will become one of eight Broadway musicals to perform in Grammys history; previous shows include Godspell, The Magic Show, Sophisticated Lades, La Cage aux Folles, The Will Rogers Follies, Riverdance, Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk, and American Idiot.

Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America. It began Broadway previews July 13 and opened August 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre after an earlier run at the Public Theater.
