Flashback Friday: Jennifers Hudson and Holliday Are Telling You…

From ”Dreamgirls” to ”The Color Purple”, they love doubling down on the same roles.

The Color Purple has spoken and Broadway's next Shug Avery will be none another than stage legend Jennifer Holliday, who will take the reins from fellow Tony winner Heather Headley beginning October 4. The part feels written in the stars for Holliday, not just because her fierce vocals push all da right buttons, but because she and fellow Jennifer (Hudson, that is) seem destined to cross career paths.

Both famously took on the role of Effie in Dreamgirls to award-winning acclaim — Holliday taking home a Tony in 1982 and Hudson (who originated the role of Shug in the current Broadway revival) nabbing an Oscar in 2006. Appropriately, we've decided to flash back to their mutual showstopper, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," which they slayed together when they shared a stage at the 2007 BET Awards.
