According to published reports, Elaine May — the legendary comedian, actor, writer, and director most known for her collaborations with the late Mike Nichols in the 1950s and '60s — is set to make a long-awaited return to Broadway this fall in a new production of Kenneth Lonergan's The Waverly Gallery. This will be the Broadway premiere of Lonergan's play, which was first produced by Second Stage Theatre in 2000.

May will star alongside Michael Cera and Lucas Hedges, both Lonergan veterans. Cera is currently starring in the Broadway premiere of Lonergan's Lobby Hero and was previously in This Is Our Youth in 2014. Hedges garnered an Academy Award nomination for his work in Lonergan's 2016 film Manchester by the Sea. Lila Neugebauer will direct the production.

The Waverly Gallery will begin preview performances at the John Golden Theatre on September 25 and officially open on October 25. May previously appeared at the same theater with Nichols back in 1960 in An Evening With Mike Nichols and Elaine May.
