Annaleigh Ashford and Julie White Will Team Up on Broadway in Sylvia

The revival of the A.R. Gurney classic will be directed by Daniel Sullivan.

The A.R. Gurney play Sylvia will make its Broadway premiere later this year, producers announced today. The romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog will begin previews September 25 at a Shubert venue to be announced.

Sylvia will star current Tony and Drama Desk nominee Annaleigh Ashford (You Can’t Take It With You) as Sylvia, Tony Award winner and current Tony and Drama Desk nominee Julie White (Airline Highway) as Kate, and Drama Desk Award winner Robert Sella (Stuff Happens) as Tom/Phyllis/Leslie, with additional casting to be announced.

The world of a middle-aged New York couple is turned upside down when the husband brings home an exceptionally engaging canine running loose in Central Park. This look into the complexities of love and commitment asks what it truly means to be devoted to your partner…and how do you choose between the love of your life and man’s best friend?

Sylvia first premiered in New York off-Broadway via Manhattan Theatre Club in 1995. That production starred Sarah Jessica Parker as Sylvia and Blythe Danner as Kate. John Tillinger directed.

Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Proof) will direct the Broadway production, with a creative team including scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Japhy Weideman.

Sylvia is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Daryl Roth.
