Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan and actors Montego Glover and Chad Kimball will perform at a celebration in honor of the Shubert Theatre's box office opening for the new Broadway musical Memphis. The event will take place in Shubert Alley on Wednesday, August 26 at 12pm.
The musical, which will begin previews September 23 in anticipation of an October 19 opening, will be directed by Christopher Ashley, with choreography by Sergio Trujillo, and is based on a concept by George W. George and features book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, with music and lyrics by Bryan. Set in the segregated South of the 1950s, Memphis follows the fictionalized life story of white radio disc jockey Huey Calhoon (Kimball), who falls in love with both rock & roll and an electrifying black singer named Felicia Farrell (Glover).
B. Smith's Restaurant will be giving away Memphis style BBQ samples during the event, which will also feature VH1 Save the Music Foundation student keyboard ensemble from Jersey City's MS 41.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.memphisthemusical.com.
RE: David Bryan, Montego Glover, Chad Kimball to Perform at Memphis Barbeque on August 26
This play was amazing. I am so proud to say I am from New Jersey...even if the musical score wasnt written by two jersey boys and one of them was the keyboard player for Bon Jovi. I would still have thought it was amazing. The singing and dance numbers were just fabulous...I would see it again but I now live in AZ. I went back to Jersey just to see the play...I loved it. They had a 20 minute or more standing ovation.
