Alison Fraser Set for Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival’s Tennessee Williams and Music

Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival has announced plans for Tennessee Williams and Music, a program presenting the pleasures of music in the drama of America’s great playwright, September 20-23.

Among the highlights is The Tennessee Williams Songbook, featuring Tony nominee Alison Fraser and pianist Allison Leyton Brown, who will entertain with pop songs from plays by Tennessee Williams and other musical surprises.

Programming will also include a production of The Glass Menagerie starring Celeste Burnum and featuring a fiddle in the wings and old records on a wind-up gramophone. Boston’s Beau Jest Theater will create a dreamscape for Ten Blocks on the Camino Real, a production featuring masks, marionettes, and a mariachi band. Acclaimed South African composer Charl-Johan Lingenfelder has created a soundscape and score for Kingdom of Earth. The American premiere of i blues di Tennessee Williams comes from Bergamo, Italy and includes two actresses, two languages, three musicians, and four scenes in variations and improvisations that exalt the rhythm and blues of the writing of Williams.

Never Get Dressed Till Before Dark on Sundays, popular songs play on and the borders between comedy and tragedy. Auto-da-fé involves a parade of live music from the Hot Tamale Brass Band. Minneapolis composer George Maurer will play piano and conduct his celebrated jazz ensemble in the song cycle Autumn Song. A production of Boston’s New Urban Theatre Laboratory’s Gift of an Orange will take place in the hidden outdoor Garden Wa with a background of beating drums and the smell of gumbo.

In addition, The South is Everywhere, a new Austrian documentary exploring Tennessee Williams’ roots in the Mississippi Delta and his international reach today, will be presented.
