Bradley Cooper, Kristen Johnston, and Reg Rogers will star in the world premiere of Theresa Rebeck’s The Understudy, to be directed by Scott Ellis at Williamstown Theatre Festival, July 23-August 3. Julie White, who was previously announced to star in the production, has had to withdraw due to conflicts with an upcoming film.

In this new comedy, the lights of Broadway cast an unbecoming glow on one of the most notorious roles in the theatre: the understudy.

The design team will include Alexander Dodge (set), Tom Broecker (costumes), Ken Posner (lighting), and Obadiah Eaves (sound). The production stage manager is David H. Lurie.

Cooper starred in the Broadway revival of Three Days of Rain, and is known for his TV roles in Kitchen Confidential and Alias. Johnston’s stage credits include Scarcity, The Women, Twelfth Night, Aunt Dan and Lemon, and The Lights, and she is a two-time Emmy Award winner for Third Rock from the Sun. Rogers received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for his work in Holiday, and recent New York credits include The Pain and The Itch and Bach at Leipzig.
