Kennedy Center Honors Brings Performances by Robert Fairchild, On Your Feet!, and More

Fairchild joined Misty Copeland for a dance to “Bill” from the classic musical ”Show Boat”.

The 2017 Kennedy Center Honors aired on CBS last night, paying tribute to this year's collection of icons for their lifetime achievements — and the annual ceremony never fails to bring memorable performances by contemporary artists who stand on the shoulders of those who came before them.

This year, we were treated to a dance performance by a pair of Broadway veterans — American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland (On the Town) and Tony nominee Robert Fairchild (An American in Paris). They paid tribute to dancer and choreographer Carmen De Lavallade with a routine to the song "Bill" from the musical Show Boat, sung by three-time Tony nominee Rebecca Luker.

Cuban-American pop icon Gloria Estefan was also honored in Broadway style with a performance by the touring cast of Estefan's biomusical On Your Feet! Watch Christie Prades lead the company as Gloria, singing and dancing to some of her greatest hits, including "Conga," "Turn the Beat Around," and, of course, the title song.
