New Signature Theatre Season to Include World Premiere of Blackbeard

The lineup will also include productions of musicals including ”Passion” and ”Grand Hotel”.

Signature Theatre has announced its 2018-19 season.

The lineup includes two world premieres: Heather McDonald's new play Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (February 26, 2019-April 7, 2019),directed by Nadia Tass and starring Holly Twyford and Felicia Curry; and John Dempsey and Dana P. Rowe's new musical Blackbeard (June 11, 2019-July 7, 2019), directed by the company's artistic director, Eric Schaeffer, and choreographed by Matthew Gardiner.

The season also includes Simon Stephens's play Heisenberg (September 18-November 11) in its DC premiere production, directed by Joe Calarco. Timothy Douglas will direct a new production of Spunk (April 30, 2019-June 23, 2019), George C. Wolfe's adaptation of three short stories by Zora Neale Hurston.

Musicals make up the rest of the season. Natascia Diaz will star in a new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion (August 14-September 23), directed by Matthew Gardiner. Gardiner will also direct and choreograph a new production of Elton John and Lee Hall's Billy Elliot: The Musical (October 30, 2018-January 6, 2019). Eric Schaeffer will direct a new production of another musical adaptation of a film, Grand Hotel: The Musical (April 2, 2019-May 12, 2019).
