In this comic drama set on the shores of Cape Cod, two aging siblings — a battered fisherman and his hell-raising sister — brace for the return of a prodigal daughter and the arrival of new life. But the tides bring more than they bargained for, and old wounds run deeper than Nantucket Sound.

In 2017, Jim Frangione's Flight of the Monarch, directed by Jeff Zinn, received its world premiere at Gloucester Stage. ArtsFuse called it "a delightful world premiere production of a superb play" — a portrait of two middle-aged siblings, Sheila and Thomas, born, raised, and still living in a small New England fishing town. A daughter, Mia, is on the phone, but never appears. The Shallows brings all three back onstage, and adds a fourth character, Julia.
