Edmonds Community College Theatre Arts presents The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere, a satire on the medical profession written in the final days of the playwright’s life. Molière famously died while performing the lead role of Argan, the hypochondriac. The play is guest directed by Keith Hitchcock, who chose to set his version of the play in the 1950s to make it more accessible for a contemporary audience:
“The fifties, to me, was a time when we, as a culture, almost blindly gave ourselves over to science, technological advances, and the future. We thought scientists and technologists could solve our every problem. This is very much the main character’s attitude toward doctors and medical science, ” Hitchcock said.
Immediately following the Nov. 17 performance, audience members are invited to join the cast and director for a free wine and cheese reception in the theater’s lobby. Supported by the Edmonds Community College Foundation, the reception toasts the college’s first performance at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
