This December, Seattle Public Theater at the Bathhouse (SPT)
hosts a return favorite, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. This year’s production marks the last time SPT will stage Barbara Robinson’s
wisecracking and heart-warming, non-traditional Christmas tale. Carol
Roscoe directs.

On the surface, the show portrays one community’s production of the traditional Christmas pageant. But as the story line develops, everyone involved in the congregation’s annual uninspired and regimented pageant find their presumptions about the Christmas story challenged. Soon all bets are off as a rowdy group of skateboarding, nose-pierced, never-been-to-church-before kids called the Herdmans enter the plot. The story shines a spotlight on the congregation’s reaction to the Herdman children as they charge in and grab all the major roles. Although total chaos reigns over the pews, eventually the Herdman’s serve as a catalyst for some surprising revelations.
