About the Show

What happens when a crafty Roman slave named Pseudolus attempts to win his freedom by arranging the elopement of his brainless, innocent young master, Hero, to the equally brainless and innocent courtesan Philia? Everything you can possibly imagine! From curtain up, with the opening anthem “Comedy Tonight,” this zany, burlesque-style farce is one of the funniest shows you’ll ever see: a mishmash of major mischief, mishaps, mistaken identities, misunderstandings, misconduct, and mayhem! Loaded with witty, comically inane love songs, and clever patter, this toga party was written by Larry Gelbart, the creator of Tootsie and the TV show MASH, and features Stephen Sondheim’s first-ever Broadway score. This Tony Award-winner is an irreverent, fast-paced, non-stop laugh-fest.
