About This Show

Edith Piaf was born in a gutter and raised in a brothel. “I was hungry, I was cold. But I was also free… free not to get up in the morning, not to go to bed at night, free to get drunk if I liked, to dream… to hope.” Piaf captured in every song the flavor of French life with an appeal that was international. And even when there stalked black specters of illness, drink, and drugs–she could still sing the unforgettable refrain: Non, je ne regrette rien. No, I regret nothing. Chris Hayes directs Pam Gems’ Piaf, in repertory at the Potomac Theatre Project.
