About the Show

Blending painting, poetry, music and theater, Kultar’s Mime tells the story of four young Sikh children, who survived the violence that rocked Delhi in 1984 after the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi. A collective of young Jewish artists, intending to commemorate the 1903 Kishinev Pogrom, stumble upon the story of the of the massacre of Sikhs in Delhi in 1984. They decide to create original artwork inspired by a poem called Kultar’s Mime and use the text of the poem to tell the story of the pain and suffering of the survivors. They also draw upon Haim Bialik’s famous poem, In The City Of Slaughter to make the point that both human suffering and compassion can span cultural, religious and geographic boundaries.
