About the Show

Discover the timeless beauty and joy of this organic dance. Students will learn basic technique including lifted stance and posture, shimmies, isolations, undulations and traveling steps. Class will include a brief introduction to the history, context and philosophy of belly dance. Come celebrate femininity through an ancient, life-embracing art! No prior experience necessary.

Instructor: Sahara Dance
Sahara Dance, Washington DC’s Center for Middle Eastern Dance is a boutique dance studio dedicated to celebrating the joy and beauty of belly dance. Seeking to develop and elevate Middle Eastern dance as a performance art, Sahara Dance creates several annual theater productions highlighting both traditional and experimental belly dance. Sahara Dance offers over 40 weekly belly dance classes, and is home to 16 faculty members and four resident performance companies.

See Sahara Dance resident companies Raqs Sahara and Sahara Tribal perform: Friday, July 28 at 8: 00 pm and Saturday, July 29 at 10:00pm at the Calvary Baptist Church Woodrow Theatre.
