About This Show

In Having Our Say, Sadie Delany and her “little” sister, Bessie, each over 100 years old, welcome us into their home as they prepare dinner in remembrance of their father’s birthday. They bake a ham, stuff a chicken, make ambrosia and pound cake as they share fascinating anecdotes of their lifetime in a world that survived the Great Depression, fought two world wars, endured Jim Crow, and triumphantly marched for Civil Rights. Daughters of a slave, their story is not simply African-American history or women’s history, it is our history, told through the eyes of two unforgettable women as they look not into the past, but ahead to the future.
