Dance Theatre of Harlem co-founder and artistic director Arthur Mitchell likes to speak of “using the arts to ignite the mind.” Based on the success of its original mission to provide Harlem youngsters with the opportunity to study and excel in neoclassical dance, DTH has developed Dancing Through Barriers, a “traveling university” that introduces thousands of young people to the art and discipline of dance. The Dancing Through Barriers Ensemble, some of the most exciting and talented young dancers on the national and international dance scene, comes to BlackRock to
present a lecture/demonstration on the art of classical ballet, a virtual performance that includes pieces from the company’s repertoire of such masterworks as Balanchine’s Ballet Concerto Bono, Corsaire’s Adagio, and Bach’s Violin Concerto.
