Bigsmögåsbørdwunderwerk, or as the Squonkers call it, “The Opera with the Most Highly Syllabic Title Ever,” was created by Squonk Artistic Director Steve O’Hearn and Musical Director Jackie Dempsey in the noble tradition of Monteverdi, Wagner and Glass. An unearthly combination of song, dance, comic intrigues and visual gimmickry, Big draws from Baroque and Wagnerian opera, Chinese and Japanese shadow puppet and opera traditions, and contemporary theatre and circus, creating its own brand of opera.
