About the Show

Elizabeth 1 is a wild surrealistic look at the life and times of Elizabeth Tudor, a Punch-and-Judy comedy about the so-called Virgin Queen. Playwright Paul Foster uses the device of a troupe of 11 scrubby players(playing a total of 57 characters) performing a street platform version of the life and times of the Queen in Shoreditch, at a farm town in the sticks and finally at Cambridge to the absolute horror of the Dons. The story hits the high spots of Elizabeth’s reign including her confrontation and beheading of Mary and the Battle of the Spanish Armada (fought on stage!).
