Martin Sherman’s worldwide hit play took London by storm in 1979 when it was first performed by the Royal Court Theatre, with Ian McKellen as Max, (a character written with the actor in mind). Now Sir Ian is a major star of theater and film. The Broadway production was nominated for BEST PLAY, and starred Richard Gere as Max. There was also a film version released in 1997, that included in the cast, Mick Jagger as Greta, the proprietor of one of the most successful night clubs in Berlin that catered to those with a “deviant lifestyle.”
