The shores of the Mississippi River provide the backdrop for Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn. It’s the story of a young boy in search of freedom and adventure. After escaping his drunken father, faking his own death and deciding to run away he comes across Jim a runaway slave and his only friend at this point. Together, they spend nights and days journeying down the river, both in search of freedom. Through all of Huck’s adventures down the river he learns a variety of life lessons and improves as a person. Ultimately, developing a conscience and feelings that extend beyond his own, but to all of humanity.
