About This Show

WaterTower Theatre ends its 2000-2001 season with Blind Lemon: Prince of Country Blues. The rich cultural life of Dallas’ “Deep Ellum” district in the 1920s provides a platform for the story of blues legend, Blind Lemon Jefferson. The musical contains many of the tunes that made Blind Lemon the first African-American legend in blues music. The route from his birth in Wortham, Texas to his emergence in Chicago as a recording artist is traced in this acclaimed new musical by Dallas playwright Alan Govenar, with Akin Babatunde.
