About the Show

The SF Playhouse presents The Fantasticks. Freely adapted from Edmond Rostand’s 1894 play Les Romanesques, the musical tells a timeless tale of love and humanity. Its ingredients are simple: a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a feud. The twist is that this feud is a fake. The two dads have fabricated it in order to drive their son and daughter into each other’s arms, on the premise that the kids will do whatever their fathers tell them not to. The result is a timeless fable of love that is both nostalgic and universal.

The show featues book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt.
