Just in time for Mardi Gras come musical mayhem, marching band madness, and a powerful blow-out-the-windows sound. These qualities are the hallmarks of San Francisco's most raucous and sought-after New Orleans fusion band, the Brass Mafia. The ensemble includes trombone, trumpet, sax, drums, and tuba. Together they perform music from different decades and continents as well as unexpected mash-ups and some of their originals. They are joined onstage by guest vocalist Yvette Pylant.
The Brass Mafia emphasize heavy backbeats, creative improvisation, and unique arrangements. They have been featured at events for SFJAZZ, San Francisco's annual Fat Tuesday parade, and have collaborated with Lyrics Born, Thomas Dolby, Peter Rowan, and Nicki Bluhm.
