Crowns

A lively and soul-stirring portrait of African American women and how they define themselves through their hats, Crowns concludes the Prince Music Theater’s 2003-2004 mainstage season. (The show takes the place of Gemini, The Musical which has been rescheduled for the fall.) Crowns, written by Golden Globe Award-Winning actress and playwright Regina Taylor just won the Helen Hayes Award for best musical. The beautiful, gospel-infused show is adapted from the acclaimed book of photographs and interviews, Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry.

The Intiman Theatre production of Crowns transfers to Philadelphia immediately upon closing its critically acclaimed and extended run in Seattle. Jacqueline Moscou directs, with choreography by the internationally-acclaimed Donald Byrd, and music direction by Seattle’s renowned gospel director Patrinell Wright.
