About the Show
Reading of a New Work: “…DA BRONX IS BURN’N!” by Dayshawnda Ash
“…DA BRONX IS BURN’N!” is a visceral, movement-driven play set in the South Bronx during the late 1970s, when fires tore through neighborhoods and entire communities were left to fend for themselves. Blending dialogue, music, and breakdance-inspired movement, the play confronts sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, and systemic neglect without spectacle or apology. “ …DA BRONX IS BURN’N!” asks what it means to survive the aftermath—when the flames are gone, but the ash still clings to the body. This is a story about memory, movement, and the people who live on after the city lets them burn.
