Sometimes things that are convenient are far from easy. In Convenience, a mother and son must face the things they’ve conveniently avoided for years. The Human Race Theatre Company will present the Midwest premiere of Gregg Coffin’s acclaimed new musical as part of The Loft Series 2.
The musical tells the story of 26-year-old Vince, as he attempts to come to terms with the “relationship of convenience” he and his mother have shared since his father left 20 years earlier. When Vince returns home to see his mother, each must confront secrets – Vince reveals he’s gay and his mother tells him she will remarry – as well as two decades of emotional scars. Over the course of a tense-yet-touching week together, the two struggle to heal their wounds and find themselves, so that each can forge a new future. Along the way, the pair also discovers a bond that ultimately draws them closer together.
